Post lives
All to see
Pick Out
Tailored shots
Be brand
Shareholders
Keep it going
It's an endless race
You dread to lose
Cut past and cropping
There's no stopping
Once we start, we're through
Validation
Praise
Need a few more views to today
Keep checking
Tuning in
Need attention unmet friends
No time for waiting
That ceaseless craving
Driving you insane
Now all our dreams
Compressed into screens
Close but far away
So much trying
So much vying
It has to be mine
Too much needing
Not enough weening
Now we're hooked for life
Those secrets
Yet to tell
Buried deep
Beyond well
Show world
Open book
Dusty cover
Overlooked

Better in TX
Girl lives with her uncle Texas way
That is where his gaze met her legs
It was several weeks before she knew
That there was nothing that she could do
They say life's precious
Just not for us
Where can she get an abortion
When you're the victim of abuse
Parenting might not be what you want to do
And if you're a woman who likes to choose
They want to decide what life is best for you
They say life's precious
Just not for us
Where can she get
Oh my
Caught my neighbor's eye
They have a plan
They want to feel grand
So they spy
On us all of the time
Feeling proud
By pushing folks like us down
We live in a place and time
Where empathy stands last in line
And walls grow tall around people's hearts
So you best not stand too far apart
'Cause they would rather hedge their bets
On fantasies not what really exists
They say life's precious
Just not for us
Where can she get an abortion

No Other He
03:41
|
|||
No Other He
He had so much to say
Felt useless anyways
Wish this was not to be
Delaying most every dream
Was
Not
Was not that long ago
Seemed a familiar show
Had a familiar flow
Take
A
Take a stab just fall flat
Hang it up, pack those bags
Go right back to the back
On and on this would go
Never quite seemed to slow
Hit repeat
Do again
Walk away
Once again
Talk about tiring
Wears him down
To the seams
He gets up every time
Force himself to be kind
Give it up
Just say no
How much more
Will he blow
Tis his life
Tis his being
There is no other he
Of thee I sing
Had
He
Had he another chance
He'd choose a different past
He'd find a different path
So
That
So that he could be
Free of screwed histories
Free of these things
'Friad that's not how it works
Only one time on earth
Hit repeat
Do again
Walk away
Once again
Talk about tiring
Wears him down
To the seams
He gets up every time
Force himself to be kind
Give it up
Just say no
How much more
Will he blow
Tis his life
Tis his being
There is no other he
Of thee I sing
Makes of it what he can
Moves his feet looks around
Can he find solid ground
Give it up just say no
Give it up
Just say no
How much more
Will he blow
Tis his life
Tis his being
There is no other he
Of thee I sing
He waited patiently
There was no destiny
There were no days to see
All that he was to be

Are You There, God?
03:39
|
|||
Are You There, God?
Are you there, God? It's me, Mark… Zuckerburg
I just wanted to take a few minutes here to thank you, because well, it's been quite an eventful few years and I haven't had the opportunity to reach out, so I figured why not now.
I guess the first thing I want to thank you for is The Internet, for without that, well, I wouldn't get the opportunity to play you, ha ha
Since you created The Internet, it has pretty much replaced you as the all knowing and all powerful one
Have to imagine that has to be rough, to watch one of your children catch all the accolades while you stand on the sideline all but forgotten
That must have been similar to what you experienced when created Jesus, hard to know where you feeling at that time, maybe a tug of war between pride and jealously, I must imagine, but anyways
I don't want to just thank you for The Internet, because there's more to life than that, right? Of course there isn't
I really want to thank you for Covid. Oh my goodness, talk about great timing. Your release of Covid into the Metaverse, I mean into the Universe, was really a game changer for me.
I mean, look, people were already dependent on your second son, The Internet, for their day to day existence, but Covid really sealed the deal
You know, there's a rumor floating around out there that The Internet actually created Covid, so that it could be the sole Lord and Savior of the world
But I don't want to get into a little father son thing here, anyways, whoever created Covid, be it you, he, she, they, whatever, Covid has made my creation, about as valuable as food and water, playing second fiddle only to oxygen, but we're working on that, because we don't want to be second fiddle to anything one
We don't want to be second fiddle to anything or anyone
We don't want to be second fiddle to anything or anyone
We don't want to be second fiddle to anything or anyone
Anything or anyone
Fiddle
I sure hope you were listening, if not, my voice recognition software has captured all of this so it will be available on The Internet, assuming you two still have a good enough relationship where The Internet will share that with you
But hey, sorry to bring that offspring rivalry thing up again, but hey, what can I say, I'm good at creating problems that don't exist so that I and I alone can solve them
You ought to try it sometime, 'cause it sure feels great to be needed

If there really was a hell
The earth would be a better place

Oh, You Children
04:48
|
|||
Oh, You Children
Oh, you children
You sweet children
Stop right now and listen to me
I've got something
A little something
A little something I want you to do for
Me
Yes indeed
Oh, you children
Distracted children
This is all I ask of you
The only thing I want you to do
And once you're done we'll be through
I want you to play a little role for me
I want you to act as if you believe
As if you believe you are the Almighty
Then get those people to do just as I please
That's what I want you do to for me
Yes indeed
Oh, you children
Naïve self-absorbed children
Look at what you did for me
You made them think you have piety, power
When, in fact, I'm the man of all hours
Now their faith's been deflowered which leaves you right here with me
in perpetuity
Thank you

Want
03:05
|

Want
You want to be free
You want to be happy
You want it all
You want to live high life
Celebrity lifestyles
You want it all
But your life is not like that
Don't have enough to show for
All the working hours you have done
And your bank account is dry
You're late on rent and cannot find
A job that gives you all that you wanted
You want to have that house
Sheets with a high thread count
You want it all
1 billion followers
More friends than you deserve
You want it all
But don't you know that if you do
There will be things that you will lose
That one day you will wish you'll have back
Each and every day goes by
A little bird before your eyes
Tells you you've not made it yet
You want to be free
The greatest time
You want to be happy
The greatest time
1 billion followers
The greatest time
You want it all
The greatest time that you will have
Is when you're walking hand in hand
With those you love and didn't know before all that
It's in moments just like these
That you will sip the golden tea
To quench a thirst that keeps others longing
You want it all
You want it all

Yikes
I loved you all so much
Could not get myself enough
So I would go against
Common sense
Kept on passing along
Ing that had not been solved
And would not be for
Some time
That's ok, what can you do
As you cover up those blues
Not so easy, not much gain
Feel that pain
There's nothing to fix
Nothing broken or miss
Ing is what you had felt
Now no more
Nothing ventured, nothing gained
It is not the type of game
Where the dice you pick and roll
Have no sides
That's ok, what can you do
As you cover up those blues
Not so easy, not much gain
Feel that pain
Then those times you do pay attention
Here it comes: yikes, yikes, yikes
Run, dodge, hide, shift the narrative
Here it comes: yikes, yikes, yikes
Find a hole, jump in, cover up
Here it comes: yikes, yikes, yikes
Stop, turn, look straight into the eyes
There you are
Nothing ventured, nothing gained
It is not that type of game
Nothing ventured, nothing gained
There you are
Time to lay down
Let it play out
Don't be active
Remain passive
No more soothing
Nor removing
It's not too bad
There you are

Hangin'
I ain't got time to be hangin'
With people hangin' out
With all the time in the world
I ain't got time to be splayed out
With people who lay out
None of their problems but all of their cures
I ain't got time to be hangin'
With people explainin'
Why they're on top
Makes no sense to me
Their homespun liberty
From which they will take and none I receive
That is
How it
Always
Seems to go
From their
High perch
There's no
Seeing below
Until
One day
We all
Start to laugh
We all
Start to laugh
We all
Start to laugh
Instead of
Crying

Brian Shapiro Band Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Shapiro’s storytelling focuses on themes of distorted thinking, the idea of what it means to be normal, and the question of how to accept hard truths we may not be ready to accept. Shapiro has been called a keen observer in his songwriting capacity with a freewheeling creativity that sparkles with skewed humor. With a powerful, yet intimate voice, Shapiro speaks to the hyperbolic times we live in. ... more
